No WessexMDS media platform could be complete without a section devoted to Dorset. Once called the Pearl of England. Here you will find mainly trivialities around the county.

Bennett's Fish & Chips, Weymouth, Dorset

According to the Times there are more than 20 chippies in Weymouth. They claim that locals recommend only two: Marlboro on St Thomas Street and Bennett's on Trinity Road. Personally I find Daniels in Littlemoor to be almost unbeatable. Chris Haslam from the Times chose Bennett's and put it in England's 6th place solely because it's the easier to find: a sky-blue takeaway and restaurant on the Melcombe side of the harbour. Cool, the packaging is recyclable cardboard. Probably unusual, they do a spam fritter for £2.40. Haddock and chips £12.75 (bennettsfishandchips.co.uk)

Beach of the year 2023 according to the Times

Weymouth was voted the best beach in the UK in 2023 by the Times.
What has it going for it? "Lifeguards; crystal-clear waters; a wide, sandy beach; shallow waters that are safe for the kids; toilets, showers, free drinking water; deckchairs and sunloungers; donkeys, beach volleyball courts, a dog area, and a place where you can borrow buckets and spades. The council runs special events including fireworks, funfairs and sports festivals. It's an amazing place."
